Québec Declaration
A society without leisure – no thank you!
Can you imagine if there had been no public parks or soccer fields, and no bicycle or walking paths to keep us healthy and fit? Imagine if there were no more places of touristic or cultural interest, no more youth or seniors clubs, no sports teams, no festivals, no scientific leisure, etc. And can you imagine our teenagers (drop-outs or not) without the group homes and community centers where they can grow and mature by initiating and carrying out their own projects? What if the 200 000 children who spent their vacation this year in day camps and summer camps had had to do without?
Can you imagine living in this type of society? Certainly not!
That's why leisure needs YOUR support, today!
The Quebec Declaration for Leisure
Adopted October 10, 2008 at the 10th World Leisure Congress, the Quebec Declaration for Leisure states that "Leisure plays an essential role in community development: it affects the quality of life and the well-being of individuals, contributes to the development of social ties and social capital, and represents a place for expression and engagement in democratic life."
In 2011, this declaration is more current than ever and the actors of public and corporate leisure, individuals and organizations, must band together to remind society of the importance of leisure in the daily life of every man and woman in Quebec!
