Finding the Balance: The design vs. maintenance dilemma

This session will explore the ever present dilemma between designing great public spaces and the growing challenges of Parks Operations and staff in managing and maintaining that open space in a sustainable fashion. This session will examine the current state, successes and challenges Open space planning and Park design. We will consider the perspective from both the designer and the maintenance mangers view point and how we can find a balance that serves the needs of our end users the public. There will also be consideration as to how we could better manage the often conflicting priorities perceived to exist between design and Parks sustainability and how to better incorporate the perspectives of both in what ultimately can be great public spaces!
